Easy Guide For Making Kheer Recipe At Home

 
If you are an Indian and you grew up without knowing Kheer then I do not even know where to start with your childhood. Kheer is a sweet dish which has originated from the Indian subcontinent. It is made boiling milk, rice and a sweetener like sugar and cardamom. You can substitute rice with broken wheat, vermicelli, sweet corn or tapioca. Westerners may commonly recognise it as rice pudding.  It is typically served in the Indian household during a meal or as a desert. Kheer is also served when there are special occasions in the house, such as birthdays and weddings since Indian culture considers taking something sweet special occasions as being auspicious.

It is easy to make and there are so many versions of Kheer that you can cook right at your home, without having to go out to look for extravagant deserts. The following instructs one of the simplest methods of cooking Kheer. Remember there are more than one ways to make Kheer, in case you want to brighten your day up.
 
Ingredients
 
Basmati rice, milk, condensed milk, sugar, green cardamom powder, almonds, raisins, cashew nuts and pistachio nuts.
 
How to Make Kheer
 
Take ¼ of Basmati rice in a bowl and wash it 3 times. The water must be clear by your last wash. Soak the rice for about 15-20 minutes and drain it. Rinse the rice again and keep it aside. In a thick pan, boil 6 cups of milk and add the rinsed rice. Boil the pot in low flame for about 15 minutes while stirring continuously. Now add ¾ cup of condensed milk to it. Mix well and add ¼ cup of sugar, ½ teaspoon of green cardamom powder, almonds and cashew nuts. Mix all of these ingredients well and serve warm or chilled with pistachio nuts. 
 
Tips on cooking more variations of Kheer
 
You can replace rice with vermicelli and get another Kheer recipe. Add Ghee or oil and heat it up. Add a few cloves and now placing once cup of vermicelli in the pan, roast it on a low to medium flame while stirring it continuously. Roast until it turns golden brown. Pour about 4 cups of milk and let it simmer over low flame. Stir occasionally and once the milk comes to a boil, add about 8 tablespoons of sugar. Let the sugar dissolve and add about 1 tablespoon of saffron strands. Mix nuts and boil it further till you have thick consistency of milk and then your variation of Kheer is ready. Bring your loved ones in and serve Vermicelli Kheer warm or chilled.
